Hachi or Red Dog:If you like dogs and want to watch a movie about amazing dogs either of these will please. You can even Google Earth and locate the Red Dog statue in western Australia city of Dampier.

Iron Man:I think Robert Downey Jr. is perfect for the role here. The guy may have some personal problems in his life, but he is great on screen. I'm not a manic comic book fan but I still remember the old Iron Man cartoons on TV. The Iron Man song by Black Sabbath came me the heebee geebees when I was a little tike. As far as the movie goes I thought it was great. I can't wait for the next one. I thought Gwenth Paltrow was just right for the film too as the loyal assistant. Jeff Bridges played a good evil CEO. Quite a long way from his role in The Big Lebowski :) (5/15/2008)

There Will Be Blood:Daniel Day-Lewis was very good in this movie. He pretty much was the movie. It is a long movie, but you don't notice how long it is. It held my interest without being overly dramatic. In fact, it is a pretty low key movie for the most part. A few scenes with a wacko preacher man are the most animated parts of the movie. All in all this is a good movie. (2/1/2008)

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly:A decent movie about the true life story of the French editor of Elle magazine who became completely paralyzed after a massive stroke. He could control one eye but pretty much had no other movement. He wrote a book before death took him. The book was a bestseller. He dictated the book by blinking one letter at a time. The co-writer spoke letters and he blinked when the right letter was spoken. (1/13/2008)

Bucket List:Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman shine in this movie. Old Jack cracks me up. And Morgan Freeman is as good as actors get. Put the two together and you end up with a very good movie. Lots of laughs. (1/13/2008)

I am Legend:Will Smith is good in this. He carries the movie; he has to he is nearly the only normal person alive after a virus turns humanity into hyper Zombies. The zombies are computer generated and it is obvious, but I got past that. The movie moves at a good pace from start to finish. I give it a thumbs up. (12/16/2007)

The Messengers:Not a bad scary movie. It had one of Mulder's nemesis from the X-files in a small role. Its about a family with a problem child teenage daughter and a very young boy who leave the city to live on an old sunflower farm. The previous occupants still haunt the place and are not real friendly. (2/2/2007)

Thank you for smoking:A funny movie about a guy who makes a living as a tobacco spokesman. The humor comes from the lack of moral scruples the guy has. He has to be a certain type of person to be able to defend a product that kills so many. Of course, he spins things so that tobacco hasn't really been proved to kill people. His best friends are a liquor company representative and a firearms maker representative. Together they form MAD (Mutually Assured Death). (4/3/2006)

Neil Young Heart of Gold:A concert movie of a Neil Young concert. He's another aging rocker but is still a good entertainer. He says he is an empty nest rocker now. Its a new genre of rock. The first part was a little mellow because the songs were some of his slower new songs. Later on he played some of his more well known songs. Heart of Gold is one of my favorites. I remember that song from my childhood years. That song is just part of my life. I will get old with the musicians I grew up listening to. (4/3/2006)

Inside Man:A pretty good movie about a bank robbery where you don't really know what they are trying to steal. I liked the way the story unfolded and kept me guessing about what was really happening. Jodi Foster plays an powerfull lawyer who doesn't mind dealing with bad people as long as they have money. Christopher Plummer is the owner of the bank being robbed. Denzel Washington is the cop in charge of the situation. Clive Owen is the lead robber who is really after something belonging to Mr. Plummer. (3/31/2006)

V for Vendetta:This is a great movie considering that it seems sort of comic bookish on front. Deep down this is a very moving and thoughful movie. It has a fairly politically correct tone but it is a well told story. The writer(s) of this movie must not care much for the current American or British governments. The whole evil government thing smacks of quite a few parallels with our current government. The movie was about people getting sick of evil leaders who used fear and dirty tricks to take and stay in power. The mysterious superhero is a thoughtful being out to right wrongs done by bad people in a bad government. I really liked this movie. (3/21/2006)

The Hills Have Eyes:I liked this remake of an old horror movie. I don't think I remember seeing the original; it came out while I was still in high school I think. It is set in the desert near an atomic bomb testing site. The descendants of miners that refused to leave their land even though nukes were going off all around them kill travelers who stray into their lands. The descendants are grotesquely disfigured as a result of the testing. They consider their victims as "lunch". (3/10/2006)

Ultraviolet:This was a pure sci-fi action movie with very little plot but decent action and an enhanced color filming technique which I liked. I couldn't really say what the movie was about. I just enjoyed the ride and watching a very sexy Milla Jovovich kill the bad guys. (3/3/2006) I also recently saw Running Scared; another action film. It had the same child star as Ultraviolet had. That kid looks like an up and coming star if he doesn't let things go to his head. Running Scared had disasterous situations galore; everything went wrong as one situation after another degenerated into catastrophy.

Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada:I liked this movie. It was a little like old westerns. Not shoot em up ones but western none the less. Tommy Lee Jones was good in the movie. I'd have to say it's my favorite character I have ever seen from him. The desert scenery was a very interesting. The desert is a vastly different environment compared to what I live in. A pretty darn good little movie. (2/24/2006)

The Pink Panther:Had a few funny moments but to me it was not all that funny. The French accents were just plain horrible and not funny. I realize that they weren't meant to be accurate but they could have been sort of Frenchy. I am not a big comedy guy so my reviewing a comedy is not optimal. (2/13/2006)

Cache (Hidden):This was supposed to be a thriller. I just did not get much thrill from this movie. Instead I had to fight the urge to take a nap during the movie. It is rare that I say a movie was bad. This movie was bad. It was a foreign film; maybe the French have a different concept of danger. The premise is that a family is receiving video tapes that have views of their house. That scares them. Nothing really happens in this movie; it is just a dud bomb that you are waiting to explode but never does.

Big Momma's House II:Ha Ha, I laughed quite a bit in this movie. I didn't see the first one. I'm not a big fan of comedies; probably because I don't go to enough of them. I tend to like "deep" movies. But this movie was definitely worth a rush hour admission just for the laughs. (2/6/2006)

The New World: This movie had good and bad points; mostly bad though. It was too weird for most people I think. It tried to be mystical and in some ways succeeded; there was an otherworldly air to the movie. But there just wasn't enough substance to it. I just felt that something was lacking. The young lady who played Pocahontas did a good job. (1/30/2006)

Match Point: I liked this movie. Had a dark ending. Is there any meaning to life and does chance and luck really rule all. Quantum Physics says our world is far stranger than we perceive. Does God play any role in our existance? The movie doesn't really ask these questions, I am rambling a bit due to Budwieser Select. The movie does hint at these things and really shows a dark side of humanity. When it really comes to survival, we humans will do just about anything to preserve our well being; we can justify anything when it is between our living or dying. Our current government is using that fact to its advantage.

Underworld: Evolution: I love Kate Beckingsdale in black leather or latex or whatever it was she was wearing all throughout the movie. But, the movie was not all that great. Lots of action but very little plot. Not a complete waste of money; if you just want fight after fight thats what you will get.

Capote: Liked it (1/3/2006). I was surprised by this movie. I had hesitated going to see it. It was quite good. I may have to read the book "In Cold Blood" now. It was his last book. From the movie, it appears that his actions to get the book tore on his soul and he never recovered to write another book. Harper Lee, who wrote To Kill a Mockingbird, is also a character in the movie. She too never published another novel after Mockingbird which came out while Capote was writing Cold Blood. What got Capote was that he was cheering for killers to be executed so that he could finish his book about them. But his relationship with the killer(s) made him see some humanity in them and that conflicted with his desire for a final end for his book.

Memoirs of a Geisha: I liked it (1/1/2006). A good story and a happy ending. I like the feel of the Chinese movies being made these days. The colors seem so vibrant.
